Recruitment Methods

There are 4 methods to recruit Arcade, any of which will instantly allow you to add him to your party:

  1. Have Speech at 75: At 75 Speech, you can speak with him immediately. Explore his dialogue tree and you will eventually see an option that asks him to join you.
  2. Have the Confirmed Bachelor Perk (Males Only): If you’re playing a Male character and have the Confirmed Bachelor Perk, you can speak with him immediately with an option to you have him join your party.
  3. Have an Intelligence stat of 2 or Lower: If you have a low intelligence stat, Arcade will join your party because he pities you and your low IQ. If you have an average Int level, you may be able to take advantage of items or armor that reduce intelligence.
  4. Have a high Reputation with the Followers of the Apocalypse: Having high rep with the Followers will allow you to speak with him and recruit him.
  5. Complete quest “High Times”: Completing this quest will allow you to recruit Arcade.

Temporary Intelligence Lowering Items

If your base Int isn’t too high you can use a combination of items and equipment to lower your Int to 2 or lower to instantly recruit Arcade.

The following items can reduce your Intelligence temporarily:

  • Alcohol: Consuming various types of Alcohol can reduce your Intelligence temporarily, however they do not stack with other types of Alcohol. Your Survival skill affects how much Intelligence you lose. High Survival Skill = Higher Stat Loss.
    • Various “basic” alcohols like beer, vodka and whiskey: -1 to -3 Intelligence depending on your Survival skill.
      • Wasteland Tequila: -2 to -6 Intelligence depending on your Survival skill. Only obtainable in the Honest Hearts expansion.
      • Large Wasteland Tequila: -3 to -9 Intelligence depending on your Survival skill. Only obtainable in the Honest Hearts expansion.
  • Chems:
    • Ant Nectar: -2 to Intelligence, dropped by Giant Ant enemies.
    • Fire Ant Nectar: -3 to Intelligence, dropped by Fire Ants.
    • Ant Queen Pheromones: -3 to Intelligence, dropped by Ant Queen enemies but very rare.
  • Equipment: Certain equipment has the ability to lower your Intelligence while you are wearing it.
    • Lobotomite Goggles / Lobotomite Mask and Goggles: -2 to Int while worn, only obtainable with the Old World Blues expansion from Lobotomite enemies.

Quickly Gaining Reputation with the Followers of the Apocalypse

If you’re unable to instantly recruit Arcade via the Speech or Int stat checks, the next fastest way would be to gain reputation with the Followers of the Apocalypse by completing a repeatable fetch quest at Old Mormon Fort. Julie Farkas will accept donations of Med-X, Fixer and RadAway. Each donation will increase your reputation with the Followers. Submit enough of items and you will have enough reputation to speak with Arcade and recruit him.
