Basic Information

Barley is an elderly man who runs Yodel Ranch. He tries his best to raise his granddaughter May, after her daughter Joanna left for the city and never came back. Barley organizes and hosts both the sheep and cow festivals every year.

You can buy sheep and cows from Barley. He also sells animal fodder, potions to make your cow and sheep pregnant, and medicine to cure their sickness. If you befriend him enough, he may tell you the recipe for ice cream.

You can find Barley inside Yodel Ranch, located south of Rose Square and next to the Poultry Farm. Exit your farm from the north, turn right and follow the road. You’ll find Yodel Ranch at the end of the road.

Events with Barley

Barley’s Horse

Date: Any date in spring or summer, during your first year

Time: 6:00 AM

Barley will come to your farm one day and ask you if you’d like to take care of a pony for a while. Accept his offer to receive the horse. Barley will come back after a year to check the horse’s condition.

If you neglected the horse and failed to raise its affection, Barley will take it away. If you took care of the horse and raised its affection high enough, he would let you keep it. You can now ride the horse after Barley gives it to you.

Call to Joanna Part 1

Date: Fridays, Year 2 or later

Time: 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM

You’ll find Barley in the Inn using the telephone. Doug asks him if he was talking to her daughter, Joanna. Barley confirms it and he still doesn’t understand why his daughter doesn’t want to come home.

He expresses that this negatively affects May and leaves the inn.

Call to Joanna Part 2

Date: Wednesdays, Year 3 or later

Time: 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM

Inside the Inn, you’ll find Barley and May making a telephone call to Joanna. May speaks to her mother about the new farmer in town and asks her to come home.

May says that talking to her mother makes her happy, but she also feels sad when her mother tells her she can’t come home yet.

Customers for Kai

Date: Any date, summer season only

Time: 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM

Barley is one of the customers who visit Kai’s restaurant during this event.

Visit Kai’s restaurant at Mineral Beach between 5:00 PM and 7:00 PM. Kai tells you he doesn’t have any customers. Popuri shows up with a lot of customers, and now Kai is worried that it’ll be too difficult for him to cook for all of them. You agree to help Kai, and he thanks you for your help.
