Fallout: New Vegas “Bleed Me Dry” Quest Guide

Bleed Me Dry is a quest given to you by Red Lucy in The Thorn that involves gathering eggs from the various creatures of the wasteland.

Quick tips before you start the quest:

  • You don’t have to follow the quest markers. While the game does guide you toward a place where you are guaranteed to find eggs, you can simply gather 12 eggs of each creature on your own.
  • You must gather 12 eggs of 6 different creatures. The creatures you must gather eggs from are as follows: Giant Mantises, Radscorpions, Fire Geckos, Nightstalkers, Cazadores, and Deathclaws.
  • Dangerous. All of the locations the quest sends you to are incredibly difficult. Make sure to prepare accordingly for each creature. A level of at least 15 is recommended.
  • Animal Friend perk is incredibly helpful. Having at least 1 rank of the Animal Friend perk will make Nightstalkers friendly towards you, making that part of the quest a cakewalk.

Starting the Quest

To start, make your way to The Thorn, a gladiator arena located inside of a sewer in the center of Westside.

Go through the first door in the corridor.

You should see Red Lucy on your right as you go through the door.

Approach Red Lucy, speak to her, and choose the following dialogue options:

Now the quest will start. Every time you get the eggs for Lucy, you’ll have to come back and talk to her again. You’ll give her the eggs, and she’ll give you a reward and another task.

Mantises

To get the Giant Mantis eggs, Red Lucy will send you to Vault 22. Unless you already cleared the Vault, going there is a waste of time – it’s incredibly dangerous and maze-like, and the number of quests that take you there is incredibly high. Only go there if you are doing other quests there at the same time (such as “There Stands The Grass”, “Still In The Dark”, and/or “I Could Make You Care”).

Instead, hunt mantises in the following areas:

  • Wilderness in the mountains near Jackobstown

These areas all have high numbers of Mantises that the player can encounter and hunt. All Mantises have a 10% chance of having an Egg in their inventory when killed. Additionally, all of these locations have Mantis Ootheca hidden throughout, with each containing 1-3 eggs.

Radscorpions

To get the Radscorpion Eggs, you will be sent to an area east of the Goodsprings Cemetery. Unlike the mantises, this is an incredibly easy location to find and grab eggs in.

Make your way to the Radscorpion nest, located northeast of Goodsprings and north of the Yangtze Memorial.

You’ll see a pile of eggs guarded by several Giant Radscorpions. Kill them or run past them, grab the eggs, and return to Lucy.

Fire Geckos

To get these eggs, you’ll be sent to a Fire Gecko cave near Lucky Jim Mine. While it is recommended to gather Fire Gecko eggs throughout your playthrough, getting them here isn’t too bad either.

Follow the quest marker southeast of Novac, past Clark Field, and towards the hills. You will eventually find a cave entrance. Go inside.

Note that the cave has a lot of dead prospectors inside it, who often have incredibly useful loot.

Walk down the cave corridor and take a right at the first intersection.

Nightstalkers

The quest will take you to the Bloodborne Cave to find Nightstalker eggs. You are unlikely to have enough Nighstralker eggs from playing the game, so it’s not a bad idea to go here.

The Bloodborne Cave is located east of the Brotherhood Of Steel Safehouse.

Go down deeper into the cave, past a chainlink gate. You can get about 7000 caps in a chest past that chainlink gate, but beware of the several traps that lie there.

Eventually, you’ll find a large group of Nightstalkers protecting a large pile of crystals. The eggs are located in front of that pile.

Cazadores

The best-case scenario here is that you acquire these eggs throughout your playthrough. You’ll be forced to encounter Cazadores as you play the game, and if you save all of the eggs you find, you have a pretty good chance of getting all of the eggs.

In case you don’t have them, then you may as well get them in the place the quest points you to – a Cazador nest located south of Jackobstown.

Bring area-of-effect weaponry (Grenade Launchers, Missile Launchers, grenades, Incinerators, etc.), plenty of antivenom, and weapons that fire quickly and have spacious magazines (such as Miniguns or Laser Gatling Guns). Without these items, you’re very unlikely to succeed.

Finding the eggs is easy – simply follow the quest marker and you’ll find it. It’s a straight walk through the Mount Charleston wilderness. The real issue is all of the Cazadores. Killing all of them to get to the eggs is a massive struggle.

Look for an area inside of a ravine that has Cazador nests on all sides. The eggs will be on the right side of the ravine, in a small clearing.

Deathclaws

The last part of the quest will send you to one of two places, Quarry Junction or Dead Wind Cavern, to find Deathclaw eggs. Unless you somehow have already have 12 Deathclaw eggs and can skip this part of the quest, always go to Quarry Junction.

While there are more Deathclaws in total, you are fighting them in the open, and you can use the higher range of firearms and explosives to pick off or weaken Deathclaws from afar.

Bring your most powerful weapons. Anything that is good at piercing armor is a good choice. If you have one, consider bringing a Fat Man and a few Mini Nukes, as this is one of the best places to use it. If your weapon of choice can fire at long ranges, even better.

The pile of eggs is located in a small cave in the western corner of the quarry.

Finishing the Quest

After you bring Red Lucy all of the eggs, you’ll receive the unique Dinner Bell shotgun as a reward for hunting down the Deathclaws. You’ll also unlock the ability to sleep with Red Lucy should you want to.
