You’ll find Balzack at Palais de León during chapter 4, after using a Powder Keg on his palace. This is the last battle of this chapter.
Preparations
- Be at least level 12. You’ll probably have to grind for a bit before fighting Balzack. Inside the Mamon Mines is a good place to get some EXP.
- Gear up in Havre León. Get two Feathered Caps, two Poison Moth Knives and two Fur Coats for Meena and Maya. Also stock up on Medicinal and Antidotal Herbs.
- Get the Sphere of Silence. This is an optional item but it will make the boss fight a lot easier. See our guide on how to find it!
Finding a Powder Keg
In Havre León’s jail you’ll find out that you can use gunpowder to scare off the chancellor at Palais de León. You’ll also find out there’s gunpowder at the Mamon Mines, to the west.
Exit Havre León and head west, following the shoreline. Skip the first peninsula you see, the one with a small temple. Get into the second peninsula and head northwest until you find a town.
Rest at the small Inn at the northeast and exit the Inn through the western door, so you can enter the mine. Turn east to find a Seed of Magic in the small room. Keep following the path north and turn left on the last bifurcation to find a chest with Silver Tarot Cards. Head northeast to find the stairs to the next floor.
Note: the Silver Tarot Cards are a special weapon that can be used by Meena as an item. They trigger random effects, either positive ones like healing your entire party, to something like instantly killing a random member of your group. So use it with caution!
On this floor, turn left to find a Seed of Life in front of a gravestone. Head back and turn north this time, then head east at the end of the floor to find the last set of stairs. Open the chest in that room to find the Powder Keg.
Fighting Balzack
Now that you have the Powder Keg, you can head back to Palais de León. Enter the palace and go to the eastern side, where the chancellor’s room is located.
Use the Powder Keg outside the room and the explosion will scare the chancellor, making him hide behind a secret door. Get inside the secret room to find Balzack. You’ll start a boss fight.

| Use your Sphere of Silence as soon as you start the fight. That will seal his spellcasting abilities. Without doing this, he’ll be able to cast Full Heal on himself whenever he’s low on HP, making the fight much harder. Cast Sap on him with Maya to lower his defense and then keep attacking him with physical attacks, healing with Meena whenever someone has less than half of its HP. He’ll fall after some turns. |
You’ve beaten Balzack! But before you can celebrate a new, bigger monster will pop up and attack you. You can’t win this fight so don’t even try.
The sisters will wake up in a jail cell. The real king of León will help you escape and you’ll find a Boarding Pass on the way out. Now you simply have to run to Havre León and use it on the shipyard to finish the chapter.
