There are 2 Super Mutants located in Jack Rabbit Springs, which always spawn with high-quality weapons.
One of these two Super Mutants always spawns with a powerful melee weapon, like the Super Sledge, while the other spawns with a potent automatic weapon, like a Light Machine Gun or a Minigun.
Quick tips before you go to Jack Rabbit Springs:
- Dangerous Area. The area in which the Super Mutants are located is guarded by Centaurs, which have powerful ranged attacks. That’s not even mentioning the strength of the Super Mutants themselves. Attacking from stealth, bringing chems, or utilizing special ammo types is highly recommended.
- Weaknesses of the enemies: Centaurs have no DT, so Hollow-Point ammunition is very strong against them. Super Mutants on the other hand have a DT of 15, which is exactly the amount of DT that the 5.56 Armor-Piercing ammo ignores.
- Irradiated Area. The entire area of Jack Rabbit Springs is irradiated. Bringing at least one dose of both Rad-X and Rad Away is highly recommended.
- Make a save far away from the site. It’s recommended that you make a save around the area of either Primm, Emergency service railyard, or another far away location. That way, if you get to Jack Rabbit Springs and the Super Mutants don’t have the weapons that you want, you can restart from your save. If it’s far enough away, the weapons will be randomized each time.
Possible Weapons
The following is a list of all weapons that the player can possibly find on the two mutants. The most common weapons are underlined.
- Melee: Super Sledge, Sledgehammer
- Ranged: Incinerator, Minigun, Assault Carbine, Light Machine Gun
- Explosive Weapons: Missile Launcher, Frag Grenade
Acquisition of the weapons
To acquire the weapons, you must head to the area of Jack Rabbit Springs, located far to the southeast of Goodsprings and northeast of the Mojave Outpost.

Once in the area, take care of the Centaurs before locating the Super Mutants, who are located in a makeshift camp underneath a cliff.

If the Super Mutants have the weapons you want, go ahead and kill them. They never sleep, so there is no way to ambush them while they’re asleep.
Cripple the legs of the one with the melee weapon and the arms of the one with a ranged weapon (use V.A.T.S. if necessary). If one of the mutants has a missile launcher, deal with it first, otherwise, kill the one armed with a melee weapon first.
Once all of the enemies in the area are dead, you can go ahead and leave, but the weapons are likely to be in poor condition, luckily, there is a Weapon Repair Kit conveniently located in the area.
To find the Weapon Repair Kit, search the area and look for two antennas located between the irradiated lakes. Below them, you will find a dose of Hydra, a Weapon Repair Kit, a Stealth Boy, and 2 ammo boxes. You can use the Weapon Repair Kit by interacting with it in your inventory, doing so will restore the condition of your currently equipped weapon.
