The Fire Spirit can be awakened in Burnmount. Getting the Fire Amulet from him and the other amulets from the earth, air and water spirits is needed to progress in the main story.
Warning: this guide contains spoilers for Dragon Quest VII.
Activating the teleport pad to Burnmount
After the events at the Cathedral of Light happen, Sir Mervyn will leave your party. Head to Pilchard Bay and talk to the hero’s mother, at the dock. After that, talk to Maribel at her house and she’ll join your party again. She’ll be at the same level and with the same equipment she had when she left many hours ago.

Leave the town and go to the Shrine of Mysteries. Interact with the statue there to talk with Sir Mervyn. When you enter the shrine you’ll find out you can’t use the teleport pads, but Sir Mervyn can activate one of them in Buccanham. You’ll play with him for a while.

If you find the random encounters too tough for a single character, do your best to avoid them; there won’t be any boss fight in this quest.
Exit Buccanham and head to the Beacon. Talk to the guard there and then head to Dinky Dell, in the Den of the Dwarves. Speak to the king and ask permission to enter the Beacon.

Backtrack all the way to the Beacon and enter it. The layout is the same as in the past. You just need to head to the top and light the fire in there. Doing this will activate the teleport pad in the Shrine of Mysteries.

Finding the Fire Spirit
Recommended level: 32
Take the teleportal and you’ll be in Burnmount. Exit the place and go to Emberdale. Talk to the people guarding the braziers on each corner of the town and fight the random minions who appear.

After fighting three of them, head to the Gaffer house and go to the second floor. After a dialogue, Palmela will join you. Head to Palmela’s house, speak to her assistant and then go back to Burnmount.

The first half of the volcano has the same layout as in the past. Head to the bottom, where you fought the Glowering Inferno, and enter the new entrance to the north.

Follow through two linear rooms, and turn to the east on the third room. You’ll reach a place with many fire pillars. Head to the southeastern corner to find the stairs to the next floor.

This floor splits in three ways. The north path leads to a Mini Medal, the west path has a healing circle where you can heal your party, and the southern path leads to the next floor.

This next floor may look labyrinthic, but if you simply turn to the west and follow the main path without turning at any bifurcation, you’ll reach the next area. You can detour at the bifurcations to find a Yggdrasil Dew and a Seed of Strength.

In this hall, Palmela will talk to you, and after a brief cutscene, you’ll get a Kindling Oil and a Conflagration Key. With this you can awaken the Fire
Spirit. Just head to the next room and use the Kindling Oil in the fire pit.

Getting the Fire Amulet.
After you summon the Fire Spirit, he’ll agree to join your party if you can defeat him, so get ready for a boss battle.

Fire Spirit
5000 HP, can cast Frizzle, Kafrizzle, Inferno, Magma Blast, Pyre o’ Fire and War Cry
Cast Insulatle as soon as the fight starts, to protect your party from most of his attacks. Magic Barrier will also protect you from Frizzle and Kafrizzle. Unfortunately, there’s no defense against War Cry, a shout that will make your characters lose a turn. Have your casters use Kacrackle on him (he’s invulnerable to fire attacks). Your physical fighters should use either Sword Dance, Multifist or a mix of Oomph and Knuckle Sandwich. If you keep your party healed every turn, you shouldn’t have many troubles with this fight.
After you defeat him, he’ll join your party, unlock two more teleport pads at the Shrine of Mysteries and he’ll give you the Fire Amulet!

This amulet is needed to progress on the final dungeon, but it’s also one of the best accessories you can equip, giving you a +25 attack. You can also use it as an item in battles to cast a spell similar in power to Kafrizzle.
Now that you awakened the Fire Spirit, you can proceed with the main quest and find the Earth and Air Spirits.
