You’ll only need one Blue Fragment to restore this pillar. You’ll get it by helping the people from Emberdale. Doing this will let you reach Regenstein and continue the main story.
Warning: this guide contains some minor spoilers for the first chapter of Dragon Quest VII.
- Be around Level 7. If you play normally, you should be around this level when you reach Emberdale. If you’re not there yet, you can easily grind outside the town.
- Gear up in Emberdale. The Thorn Whip is really useful to fight groups of enemies, so buy it ASAP. Besides that, just get the best armor you can buy for your party.
Starting the Flame Festival
You’ll need to do this first to enter Burnmount.
Once you reach Emberdale, talk to the lady in front of the pit, and there’ll be a small tremor. After that, go to the big house to the north of the pit and talk to Gaffer on the second floor. He’ll tell you to spend the night at the Inn.
After resting, exit the Inn and you’ll see everyone has gathered around Palmela, the fortune teller. After this cutscene, head to the western building and talk to Palmela, where she’ll ask for help. Say “yes” and go to sleep at the Inn again.
After this, the festival will start. You need to speak to every single NPC first and then go talk to Palmela. Talk to Gaffer after that and another cutscene will start, taking you to Burnmount.
Once you’re inside Burnmount, walk west and go down the stairs. Follow the only path available, circling around the volcano until you get to the next set of stairs. Some cutscenes will play as you go down.
You’ll see three paths in front of you. The west path has a Medicinal Herb, and the north path has a Seed of Resilience. Take that northern path and head west after you open the chest, to find the stairs to the next floor.
Follow the only path available until the next floor. The open exit to the south of you has a very useful Divine Dagger. Go up the stairs to the north and keep going up until you reach the top of the volcano.
Fall into the lava pit two times, but before falling a third time, heal yourself in the healing circle to the northeast. Fall a third time and you’ll fight a boss.
|315 HP, can cast Fire Breath, Muster Strength and Trample (50% damage to the entire party)
|Fire attacks like Frizz or Flame Slash will do minimal damage to him, so avoid them. Whenever he uses Muster Strength, defend with your entire party, or you risk being one-shotted by his next attack.Cast Sap on him twice with Maribel, and keep doing normal attacks with your entire party and healing when needed until the fight ends.
Beating him will give you a Blue Fragment, but this isn’t the one you need. You can exit the place now, dropping through the nearby hole.
Finding the Blue Fragment
After you exit the volcano, Palmela will ask you for help once more. You’ll need to find a way to extinguish the black flame that appeared after beating the boss.
Exit Burnmount and head to the teleporting pod where you first appeared on the island; you’ll be transported back to the present time.
Head to Estard and visit your uncle’s house, in the northeastern corner of the city. Talk to him, answer him with “yes” and he’ll give you a bottle of Wholly Holy Water.
You can return to Burnmount now and use the Wholly Holy Water on the volcano. Doing so will extinguish the black flame and conclude the ritual.
After a brief cutscene, you’ll appear again at the Inn. Head back to Palmela’s place and talk to her again. She’ll give you the Blue Fragment.
This is the Blue Fragment you needed! Head back to the teleporter and into the Shrine of Mysteries, and place it in the first blue pillar. You’ll be teleported to Regenstein, where you can continue the main story.
