Equip the fishing rod while facing a body of water (river, lake, or the ocean), then press and hold the square button. Wait for the fish to bite and tug the line, then release the square button to reel it in.

If you’re successful, you’ll catch a fish! You won’t get anything if you release the square button too early or too late, though.

The fish size may vary from a small fish, medium fish, or large fish depending on where you cast your rod.

Note: Sometimes, you’ll get trash (cans, boots, fishbones, or branches) when fishing. Don’t throw these back into the water! Instead, go to the town square and throw them into the garbage can.

How to Get the Fishing Pole

The fishing pole is better at catching fish than the fishing rod. You will have a better chance of catching regular fish and the six “King Fish” in the game if you use the fishing pole.

To get the fishing pole, you need to have 50 or more fish in your fish pond. To put a fish in your pond, hold the fish and toss it into the pond by pressing the X button.

You can check the number of fish your fish pond has by pressing the Start button.

Tip: Buy fish food from the supermarket and throw it into the pond once a day. Over time, the fish will grow and multiply by themselves. This will help increase the number of fish in the pond.

Once the pond has 50 or more fish in it, Gregg will visit your farm. The abundance of fish in your pond will amaze him. Talk to him and he will give you the fishing pole.

Important note: Have a free slot in your rucksack for the fishing pole before leaving your house. Don’t go indoors or leave the farm without talking to Gregg else you will lose the chance to get the fishing pole forever.
