How to get Gringham’s Whip in Dragon Quest VI

*The Undersea Treasure Chamber, Containing Gringham’s Whip 2*

After helping the mermaid Unda return to Mermaids’ Reef, you’ll obtain Lorelei’s Harp, both it and the Ultimate Key from the sunken ship near Pescado are needed to obtain Gringham’s Whip. After that you’ll head to the Undersea Treasure Chamber using Lorelei’s Harp east of Scrimsley.

Once there, you simply need to defeat both sets of guards and unlock the doors where you will find Gringham’s Whip among a few other treasures. It’s recommended you be around level 30-35 as the enemies are quite tough.

Quick Tips:

You can heal after each guard fight if needed by quickly returning to Port Haven.
Focus on killing one guard at a time to minimize damage.
Make sure to keep your team healed up as the guards can deal lots of damage.

When Gringham’s Whip becomes available

Gingham’s Whip is available after first obtaining Lorelei’s Harp by returning the mermaid Unda to Mermaids’ Reef. You’ll then need to use Lorelei’s Harp a bit north of Pescado and then straight north until you reach the Sunken Ship.

After obtaining the Ultimate Key inside, you’ll be able to unlock the doors in the Undersea Treasure Chamber and obtain Gringham’s Whip.

Where to find Gringham’s Whip

The easiest way to find the Undersea Treasure Chamber is to zoom to Port Haven in the Real World, then head a bit north until you are next to the middle of some rocks where you’ll use Lorelei’s Harp. After that head a bit northeast and then straight north until you go through an undersea pass.

Once you have gone through the undersea pass follow along the left wall until you see a structure, then head northeast to it and into. Once you are inside you can follow the straight path down and then head either direction to fight the guards for the treasures inside.

Why you should use Gringham’s Whip

Gringham’s Whip is the strongest weapon in the game, with an attack bonus of +145 and a style bonus of +57. Although it’s not available until later in the game, it’s an easy pickup once you know where it is, and the Ultimate Key can be used to find many other treasures in different locations as well, so it’s a worthwhile detour from the main story.
