Erdrick’s Sword, one of the strongest swords in the game, is found in Charlock Castle AKA the Dragonlord’s Castle. You can get it before you reach the final boss, the Dragonlord.
Preparation
- Be at least level 18. This is the end game so the monsters will be the most difficult yet. If you need to grind additional levels, you can do so at Damdara where Metal Slimes can be found.
- Avoid using Sizzle. Sizzle is learned at level 19 and you may hit this level on the way to the sword or the Dragonlord. Unfortunately, most monsters in the castle resist Sizzle, making it nearly useless. Conserve your MP for healing.
- Stock up on items. When you head to get the sword and before you head to the Dragonlord, Zoom to Tantegel, heal at the Inn and stock up on Medicinal Herbs and Magic Keys.
Directions
Starting inside the castle, head to the wall on the west then follow it north.
Then go east and south, ignoring the door you see on the way:
Enter the throne room use “Search” behind the throne to reveal a hidden staircase to the next floor.
Once you descend the stairs, head west then south.
Go east until you reach another staircase and enter it to access the third floor.
The third floor has only one path so there is no need for directions. Follow it to find the next staircase to the fourth floor.
When you get to the fourth floor, there will be more paths to follow which lead to other treasures, but your main goal is the Sword. Start by going west, ignoring the first set of stairs you pass by.
From here head south until you reach another set of stairs at the end of the path that will take you to the fifth floor.
From the fifth floor, go east then north.
Head east, then north along the wall.
Ignore the first set of stairs you see and continue along the wall and enter the second set of stairs to the 6th floor.
Once you reach the next floor, it is a straightforward path to the sword.
Open the chest to obtain Erdrick’s Sword.
At this point, you can go back to the fifth floor and take the other set of stairs you ignored to take you to the Dragonlord. Alternatively, if you are low on HP/MP and items, use Evac to escape the castle back to town.
