How To Get The Lucky Shades In Fallout: New Vegas
How To Get The Lucky Shades In Fallout: New Vegas

The Lucky Shades are a unique pair of sunglasses that are one of the only 3 items in the game that provide an increase to the wearer’s Luck stat. They can be found within the Legion Safehouse, the key to which can be acquired from Lucius if the player has a Liked or better reputation with Caesar’s Legion.

Quick tips before you set off to get the Lucky Shades:

  • Liked reputation or better with Caesar’s Legion required. To acquire this item, you need to have a high reputation with the Legion. Here is a guide to a glitch that allows you to get max Legion reputation without doing any quests for them.
    • Sometimes, a “Liked” reputation isn’t high enough. Due to a bug, sometimes having a “Liked” reputation isn’t good enough. In case this happens, you’ll have to go earn more reputation with Caesar’s Legion. Having an “Idolized” reputation seems to always be good enough.
  • Reputation reset when you finish They Went That-A Way. If you have already made the Legion hostile, but haven’t finished the They Went That-A Way quest, you can finish it to reset your reputation with the Legion to neutral.

Acquisition

Legion Safehouse Key

Once you’ve acquired a Liked reputation with the Legion, make your way to The Fort, the main Legion stronghold.

If you haven’t been there yet, you might need to take the boat at Cottonwood Cove. If it’s your first time, you’ll need to talk to Cursor Lucullus, who’ll be standing next to the boat.

In any case, when you make it to the main area of The Fort, you’ll be able to see a large tent on top of a hill, behind a gladiator arena. Go there.

Inside, you’ll see some of the main members of the Legion, including Lucius and Caesar. Lucius will be standing to the right of Caesar.

If you hadn’t spoken to Caesar before then, you’ll have to talk to him for a bit before Lucius will let you talk to him.

If your reputation with the Legion is high enough, Lucius will hand you the Legion Safehouse key immediately as you start a conversation with him.

Next, make your way to the Caesar’s Legion Safehouse, located southeast of Nipton.

Use In Gameplay

While there are a lot of potential uses for this item, there are 2 that I’d like to bring your attention to:

  • Gambling. Due to the Luck stat having a major effect on gambling, wearing these glasses can really help with making money with gambling. This pairs well with the Naughty Nightwear (a guide to acquire that here).
  • Critical hit builds. If you don’t have a maxed-out Luck stat, you can use this item to boost it up slightly. For my critical hit build guide, follow this link.
