The Mark of Erdrick, also called Erdrick’s Token on the original Dragon Quest Release, or Loto Seal on the GameBoy, is a key item found on the overworld south of Cantlin.
You’ll learn about its existence very early in the story, after reading Erdrick’s Tablet but you won’t be told where to find it until after you reach Cantlin.
Before you try to find it, it’s advised that you have these two items:
- Erdrick’s Armor: You’ll find it on Damdara. With this armor you won’t take any damage while walking on poison tiles, of which there are many on the way to the Mark of Erdrick.
- Princess’ Pledge: You can get it by rescuing Princess Gwaelyn. See our guide on how to get it. It tells you your location relative to Tantegel Castle. This is not mandatory but it will make the job much easier.
Clues about the Mark of Erdrick’s Whereabouts
To find the exact location you’ll have to go to the town of Cantlin. Enter the central building (the entrance is on the sides) and exit through the south. The floor in this hallway will damage you on each step you take, but if you have Erdrick’s Armor equipped you won’t take any damage.
Talk to the old man in this room and he will tell you that the Mark of Erdrick can be found 70 steps north and 40 steps west of Tantegel Castle. You can exit Cantlin now.
Getting the Mark of Erdrick
Make sure you have the Princess Pledge on your inventory, and cross the poisonous swamp through which you entered Cantlin. Cross the bridge and follow the shore southwards until you find another bridge. Cross this bridge too and keep heading east until you reach a bigger poisonous swamp.
On the eastern part of the swamp you’ll have to use the Princess’ Pledge (A.K.A. Gwaelin’s Love on the original release). This item will work as a sort of GPS, telling you how many steps to the north, south, east or west is Tantegel Castle. Walk around using the Princess’ Pledge until Tantegel Castle is 70 steps north and 40 steps west, and you’ll see an exclamation mark over the hero. Press the interact button on this tile to get the Mark of Erdrick.

Cast Zoom to return to Tantegel Castle and continue on the main quest. At this point, you can also store the Princess’ Pledge in the vault now, as it has no further uses other than checking how much Exp you have.
Uses for the Mark of Erdrick
You’ll need The Mark of Erdrick to progress the main story and complete the game. Its only use is to allow you to meet the man in the Holy Sanctum to the south of Rimuldar who will convert your Staff of Rain and your Sunstone into the Rainbow Drop.
