Mining requires at least a Hoe and access to one of two Mines which are open based on the season and is the only way to get certain items important for upgrading your tools and farm.

Mines

There are two mines in the game, the Waterfall Mine and the Winter Mine. You can find ores to upgrade your tools in the Waterfall Mine. The Winter Mine has rare ores used to make jewelry or machines like the cheese and mayonnaise maker.

Both mines have ten floors, and time stops while you are inside the mines. If you pass out while inside the mines, you will wake up at the clinic later in the day. 

If you bought the basket from the supermarket, you can bring it with you in the mines and fill it with ores to sell later.

Finding the Ladder

To go deeper into the mines, you must dig the soil using your hoe until you find a ladder that will lead to the lower floors. The lower floors have more rare ores like mystrile and adamantite.

The trick to find the ladder on the current floor is to dig in the area diagonally opposite to the one you just climbed down.

This ladder will lead you further down the mines. The ladder you just climbed down will lead you directly outside of the mine, not the previous floor. It is impossible to return to a higher floor so make sure you’re ready before climbing down.

The ladder will never appear on the outer tiles near the walls, so save your stamina and don’t dig on the edges.

There is a Power Berry on both the Waterfall and the Winter Mine, which can be randomly dug up on any of its ten floors.

Waterfall Mine

The Waterfall Mine is located south of your farm near the hot springs. It is accessible all year round.

Winter Mine

The Winter Mine is on a small island in the middle of a lake at the base of Mother’s Hill. It is only accessible during Winter.

There is a cave on the mine’s 10^th floor that leads to the area where you can catch the catfish, one of the six “King Fish” in the game.
