Halloween Town’s frightening bag of bugs, Oogie Boogie is another returning Disney villain in Kingdom Hearts Re:Chain of Memories. He shares some similarities with his encounter in other games, but his tricks can easily blow up in his face this time.
Quick Tips for those trying to survive Oogie’s death trap:
- Smash The Dice: Knowing how to get this battle’s Gimmick Card to drop is essential.
- Don’t Spam Sleights: Running out of cards will prove troublesome in this fight.
Preparing for Oogie Boogie

As per usual, Oogie Boogie is fought in the Key to Truth room, and is the only Boss in Halloween Town. Players familiar with Oogie Boogie’s boss fights in Kingdom Hearts 1 and 2 should be anticipating a similar style of encounter, where Oogie uses many tricks and traps, rather than fighting you himself.
Since Oogie Boogie lacks any elemental vulnerabilities, and much of the strategy for beating him involves Card Breaks, it is suggested that you use a deck with mostly Attack Cards, with some Cure and Potion cards for good measure.
Once you are ready to face Oogie Boogie, head inside the Key to Truth room.
Defeating Oogie Boogie

Enemy Attacks:
- Purple Dice Throw
- Red Dice Throw
- Buzz Saw
- Boom

Oogie has a fixed position in this fight, hiding behind an iron-wrought gate that protects him from any and all attacks. Once the battle begins, he’ll immediately throw a set of giant purple dice, which you’ll want to Card Break once they’re within reach.

Once they’re on the ground, start smashing them with your Attack cards until they drop a Gimmick Card, the green 0 value Card with the emblem of King Mickey.

Using this Gimmick Card will both cause the fence to drop, as well as leave Oogie Boogie stunned, giving you the perfect window to start piling on the damage.

If you have enough CP to build up a good amount of Sleights, chaining together Blitz will take out a good portion of Oogie’s HP. Otherwise, regular Combos of Attack Cards will do the trick, especially since he has little means of retaliation.

As an ally card, Jack Skellington functions similarly to Donald, throwing out random elemental spells. Fortunately, Oogie does not absorb any elements, so both of these Ally cards will prove effective against him, should you implement them.
Once he recovers from his stunned state, Oogie will blast Sora back into the lower area with an explosive attack, and the gate will raise again.
From here on out, the battle is fairly rinse and repeat, trying to get the Gimmick Card out of his Purple Dice while avoiding some of his tricks.

Namely, be on the lookout for when he throws these Red Dice, which will explode on contact.

Additionally, he may summon buzz saws to sweep across the pit Sora is in, which can rack up a bit of damage.

Lastly, if you find yourself running low on Attack Cards, use a Pluto card or two to (hopefully) have the trusty dog unearth some for your deck.

Defeating Oogie Boogie will grant you the eponymous Boss Card, which will allow you to restore HP over time in battle similar to the classic Regen spell from Final Fantasy.
Congratulations!
