After the initial cutscenes, your first task will be to create Berg Medicine. To do this, you must  find “grandma’s book”. There are three spots you can check, but the right place to look is on the counter against the wall beside your alchemy cauldron

After you find the book, Monika will ask you to make some Berg Medicine. Follow the instructions on how to synthesize, then you’ll be taken to the cafe. After another cutscene, Plachta will come to life.

Make your way into town. Once you reach the Plaza, another cutscene will happen and Monika will join your party. 

Leave town and you’ll be introduced to the World Map. Enter Chick Woods and a cutscene will play, leading to you being attacked by a Puni. After that, you will need to gather materials from the glowing spots on the ground. 

After gathering the two glowing spots, return to town and start synthesizing again. This time, you will go through a proper tutorial on synthesis.

After the synthesis tutorial, go to the cafe and meet Mr. Horst. The cafe will act as a hub where you can accept requests, check rumors, and earn tickets for special items from a shop that opens later in the game. 

For the first set of requests, you will need to do the following:

• Synthesize bombs
• Gather ten Uni 
• Gather two Cobalt Grass – These can be found at Pilgrim Road, a new gathering area that will become available when you visit the world map again. 
• Gather Puni Fluid – Keep defeating Blue Puni until it drops. 

Defeat the Chick Woods Ghost – You can only find it at Chick Woods during Night time.

Once you complete all requests, turn them in to Mr. Horst to complete the First Memory.
