You can get a Platinum Sword in Providence in the past, after helping the shopkeeper from that town. This weapon is optional and is very easy to miss, as the shopkeeper won’t give it to you if you ask him after you complete the scenario.

Reaching the mountain church

Recommended level: 28

When you restore the third Blue Pillar and get teleported to the past, follow the path east and north across the bridge to reach the town of Providence.

Choose the second option when asked if you were sent by the Ruckers, and the townsfolk will let you in. You can rest at the Inn if you want, and then exit the town through the northeast to get into the Mountaintop Tunnel.

Follow the path north until you reach a bifurcation. The path to the right leads to a chest with a Kingfuchsia Heart. Take the path to the left and enter the next room to find the stairs to the next floor.

From here, take the path north and then west to reach the third floor. On the third floor walk all the way down and then to the right to find the next set of stairs.

After you cross a linear tunnel and an empty cave, you’ll reach the Mountaintop Church. Enter the church and head to the second floor. After a cutscene, you’ll discover that Providence is being attacked, and Caleb will go away.

Getting the Platinum Sword

After you do this, you’ll have to walk all the way back to Providence through the tunnels. You can heal your party first at the northern cave if you want.

Once you’re back in Providence, head to the town exit on the west side, but before you exit, you’ll see a dog walking inside the weapon shop.

Follow the dog to the weapon shop and talk to the shopkeeper there. When he asks you if you plan on fighting, answer “Yes”. He’ll give you the Platinum Sword as a gift.

The Platinum Sword is yours! This sword will probably have a higher attack than any of your weapons this early in the game, but even after you get better weapons, the +30 style bonus can be very useful any time you wish to compete in the EGO Style Competition.

Equipping this sword together with the Platinum Headgear, Platinum Shield and Platinum Mail will give you an extra +30 bonus to Style.
