The potato is a spring crop in Harvest Moon: Back to Nature. Potato seeds are cheap, and they sell for more gold compared to a turnip, but they take a longer time to grow. Potatoes are an excellent source of income when you’re just starting the game.

Important Note: Each bag of seeds has 9 seeds that will fill a 3×3 square of tilled soil when planted. If you plant any seed on untilled soil, it will not grow and you will lose it forever.

Profit Using 3×3 and Fat-C Method

For non-renewable crops, we will calculate the profit per bag per day with the formula (Total Profit per Bag / Days to Grow).

The Fat-C Method

This planting method involves tilling a 3×3 square of soil and leaving one square on the edge untilled, planting just 8 crops instead of 9. This is the most efficient method of planting crops during the early stages of the game since the center crop is inaccessible without an upgraded watering can.

Gifting Potatoes

Most people in the game will react positively when receiving potatoes. Instead of giving the crop directly as a present, it is better to first create a recipe using it.

• Shipping 100 potatoes, 100 turnips, 100 cucumbers, and 100 cabbages will unlock the special seeds for the strawberry at the Supermarket.
