Spoiler Warning: The following article contains spoilers for Arcade Gannon’s story and his companion quest “For Auld Lang Syne”, as well as for Doctor Henry’s quest “Guess Who I Saw Today”.
The Power Armor Training perk is required to wear any power armor other than the NCR Salvaged Power Armor.
If you cannot complete this route, you may also use the Brotherhood of Steel route to get the perk.
Some quick tips for getting the perk this way:
- High Speech Skill: Having a Speech skill of 80 will skip the final fight of the quest.
- Bring a weapon that works well against armored foes. One of the areas that you will visit, the Crashed Vertibird, is filled with incredibly dangerous robots with high DT. Armor-piercing ammunition, or a weapon that deals EMP damage is a big help here. If you don’t have a high speech, this is also a must, due to the final enemy wearing power armor.
Quest Prerequisites
Before you can begin the quest, there are two prerequisites that must be met:
- You must have Arcade Gannon as a companion (guide here) and gain two approval points with him.
- You must have reached a certain level of main story progress.
Arcade’s Approval
You must gain 2 approval points with Arcade to unlock the quest that rewards you with the Power Armor Training Perk. The easiest way to get those is to visit the Repconn HQ and the Crashed Vertibird when Arcade is with you as a companion.
Area 1: The Crashed Vertibird
While dangerous, the Crashed Vertibird is one of the 2 locations which grant an approval point when visited. The entire area is filled with high-level robots, so extreme caution is advised.

Armor-piercing ammunition is helpful here as it will negate the high damage threshold of the robots. However, killing them is not a necessity to get the approval point with Arcade. If you can lead them away or sneak close enough to the Vertibird with Arcade in your party, you will still get the point. Using a Stealth Boy will help.
While you’re here, you might as well pick up the unique Tesla Cannon that is laying right in front of the Vertibird – the Tesla-Beaton Prototype.
Area 2: The REPCONN HQ
Head to the REPCONN HQ. It’s a large building located north-west of the 188 Trading Post, filled with friendly robots. Head inside and Arcade will speak to you, signifying that you got the approval point.

Progress the Main Storyline
You will need to have a certain level of progression in the main questlines to unlock the quest that rewards you with the Power Armor Training Perk. Depending on which route you are on, having completed any one of these quests will unlock the quest with Arcade once he has the two Approval points.
- Finish The House Always Wins, Part V. (Mr.House route)
- Finish For The Republic, Part 2. (NCR route)
- Finish Wild Card: Change in Management. (Yes Man route)
- Finish Wild Card: Finishing Touches. (Yes Man route)
Note: It is possible to start and finish this quest while intending to work for Caesar (and finishing the game with the Legion ending). To do this, the player must achieve an Accepted reputation with both the NCR and the Legion, and then finish the Wild Card: Change in Management quest without progressing too far in any of the other main story lines.
For Auld Lang Syne
Speak to the Enclave members
Once you start the quest, you must speak to 5 different people. The order in which you do this is irrelevant.
Note: After you recruit each of the Enclave members, Arcade will speak to you, and you will be able to respond in one of two ways. The first option incentivizes Arcade to return to being an Enclave member, the second makes him more inclined to leave his past behind. Choosing the second option will make it easier for you to get his unique set of armor – the Gannon Family Tesla Armor. If the player chooses the wrong dialogue choices and still wants to get the armor, they can, but they will have to pass a Speech check of 80.
Daisy Whitman
Daisy Whitman is located in Novac. She usually hangs around the top floor of the motel. She will eagerly join you.

Judah Kreger
Located in Westside, outside of Miguel’s Pawn Shop, sitting by a table playing chess. He will join you without hesitation.

Cannibal Johnson
Cannibal Johnson lives in a cave south of Vault 34. Watch out, as his cave has traps. No convincing is required for him to join you.

Orion Moreno
Located in an unmarked house north of the entrance to the NCR Sharecropper Farms. Here, you must make sure to NOT mention that you are planning to help the NCR, even if you are. As long as you don’t tell him that you’re helping the NCR, he will join you.

Doctor Henry
Doctor Henry is located in a research lab in the right wing of the lodge in Jacobstown. Jacobstown is a settlement filled with friendly Supermutants and Nightkin. Do not open fire when you see them, doing so will fail the quest.

Unlike all of the other characters, he isn’t willing to go without the player finishing a quest for him – “Guess Who I Saw Today“.
Guess Who I Saw Today Quest Guide
Once he gives you the quest, you must head to Charleston Cave, located north of the lodge, up in the snowy hills.

Once inside the cave, just follow the corridors down. Be wary of the Nightstalkers that spawn there. Eventually, you will find a dead Nightkin. He has a Chewed Stealth Boy on him. Picking it up will finish the objective.

While you are here, you may as well pick up the unique Oh, Baby! Supersledge, which happens to be one of the best, if not the best, two-handed melee weapons in the game.
Retrace your steps back to the lodge and speak to Doctor Henry and give him the Chewed Stealth Boy. He will tell you that he must run a test on a Nightkin called Lily. She can be found right outside the lodge. She’s the Nightkin wearing a straw hat and rubber gardening gloves. Tell her that Doctor Henry needs her. Go back and tell Henry to start the experiment.

Once the experiment concludes, Keene, a Nightkin, will speak to you. To get the best ending to this quest, you may pass a Speech skill check of 80. You do not have to do this to finish the quest.
Once you deal with Keene, speak to Doctor Henry again. He will tell you that he will have to keep running the experiment on Lily. If you want the best ending, you will have to pass a Science skill check of 90. If you can’t, just pick whichever option for dealing with Lily you feel is right.
After this quest is done, Henry will leave for the Remnants bunker.
Travel to the Remnants Bunker
Once you have gathered all the Remnants, the location of the Remnants Bunker will be marked on your map. Travel there and enter through the wooden hatch.

In front of you will be a terminal. Interact with it and input the passphrase “Dear old friends, remember Navarro.”

Once finished, the door next to the terminal will open, allowing you to enter. Follow the corridors and stairs until you end up in the next room, where you’ll see a Vertibird. Past it there is a door. Walk through and speak to Judah Kreger.

If you wish to get the Gannon Family Tesla Armor, you will have to tell him that you want the Enclave to support the NCR. Doing so will anger Orion Moreno, who will run outside the room and equip the Remnants Power Armor and a Gatling Laser.
If the player has a Speech skill of 80 or the Wild Child reputation with the NCR, they may convince Orion to aid the NCR. Failing to convince him will lead to him attacking the player.
After dealing with Moreno, go back to the room and speak to Judah Kreger again, who will tell you to talk to Daisy, who will give the player a set of Remnants power armor in addition to the Power Armor Training perk. The Remnants power armor is the most protective armor in the entire game, with a staggering 28 DT.

After leaving the room, Arcade Gannon will speak to you. If you convince him to aid the Followers of the Apocalypse, he will leave your party. After you exit the bunker, Arcade will approach the player and give them the unique set of Gannon Family Tesla Armor, which grants a higher radiation resistance, is lighter and is considered medium, rather than heavy armor.
