The Princess’ Pledge, also known as Gwaelin’s Love, or Princess Love, is an optional item acquired by rescuing Princess Gwaelin from the Green Dragon.
You can find out about the Princess being kidnapped early in the story, but you’ll be under-leveled and under-equipped to rescue her. We recommend you search for her once you’re at this point:
- Be at least level 14. After reaching Cantlin and defeating the Stone Golem, you should be at a level close to that.
- Have the right gear. Equip yourself with the following:
- Magic Armor – Buy in Rimuldar
- Flame Sword and Silver Shield – Buy in Cantlin
- Dragon Scale – Buy at any Item Shop.
- The Warrior’s Ring (Optional) – Found in Craggy Cave.
- Stock up on Medicinal Herbs, Magic Keys and Holy Water.
Searching for the Princess
To find out about the princess’s whereabouts, you’ll have to ask around in Galenholm. An old man will tell you that Princess Gwaelin is hidden away in a cave, and an NPC on the Item Shop will tell you that she was kidnapped and taken eastward. Head out of Galenholm now.
When you’re somewhere around level 13 or higher, cast Zoom to teleport to Tantegel Castle. After stocking up on Medicinal Herbs and making sure you have at least one Magic Key, exit the castle and head north. Cross the mountains and then head east until you see a bridge.
Cross the bridge, head southeast, cross the next bridge and the swamp and enter the cave. This is the cave where Princess Gwaelin is being helped captive.
Rescuing Princess Gwaelin

The path through the cave is straightforward and the enemies will be on a much lower level than you so you shouldn’t have any trouble getting through. Cast Glow as soon as you enter and head to the right until the end of the tunnel. Then head south while hugging the right wall. Eventually you’ll see a locked door. Open it with a Magic Key, heal yourself and prepare to fight the boss at the end of the hallway.

| Having the Magic Armor will reduce the damage of the Fire Breath attack. Heal yourself whenever your health goes below 40 hp and keep attacking when your health is high enough to endure two attacks. The dragon should fall fast enough. |
After dealing with the Green Dragon, enter the next room to find Princess Gwaelin. She will ask you to escort her back home and will jump into your arms. You’ll have to carry her all the way back to Tantegel Castle. You can walk all the way to Tantegel with the princess in your arms or choose a less romantic option and cast Evac + Zoom to get there instantly.
Once you’re in Tantegel Castle you can talk to the people while holding the princess for some alternate dialogue before taking her to the King.
After handing her to the King and getting a dialogue, you’ll receive a big amount of EXP points, and the Princess’ Pledge from her.
Uses for the Princess’ Pledge
The Princess’ Pledge allows you to speak to Princess Gwaelin on any part of the world, and it has two uses:
- She will tell you how much EXP you need to reach your next level.
- She will also tell you how many steps north, south, east or west you are from Tantegel Castle. This will be very useful to get the Mark of Erdrick later on.
Rescuing the princess is an optional sidequest, but if you do save her, you’ll get a slightly different and better ending.
