Boone is an ex-NCR sniper who can be recruited as a permanent companion by finishing the quest “One For My Baby”.

Quick tips before you go recruit Boone:

• Neutral or better NCR reputation required. If you try to talk to Boone with a negative NCR reputation, he will refuse to speak to you. He may even turn hostile outright. This can happen even after you recruit him, or even after you finish his companion quest.
• Little to no progress in the Legion main questline required. If you try to recruit Boone after you’ve made significant progress in the main questline for the Legion, he will refuse to speak to you and permanently leave you. This can happen even after you recruit him, or even after you finish his companion quest.

Recruiting Boone

To recruit Boone, you’ll have to make your way to Novac, located south of the 188 Trading Post.

Getting the Bill of Sale

After you’re there, enter the Dino Dee-Lite main lobby, the entrance can be seen right from the fast travel point. 

Once you’re there, go behind the front desk. There is a safe hidden in the floor there. If you have a Lockpick skill of 25 or higher, you can pick the lock. If you don’t, you’ll have to pickpocket the key from Jeanie May Crawford, the manager of the hotel. 

She’ll be inside the lobby all day outside of night hours, when she goes to her house at the edge of town to sleep.

You should be able to pickpocket the key without any issues. This is thanks to it having a weight of 0.

In either case, once the safe is open, loot the Bill of Sale. We’ll need it later.

One For My Baby

Head to the Dino Bite Gift Shop. The entrance is in the rear part of the giant dinosaur building.

If it’s already nighttime, you can go up the staircase in the far left corner of the room, if it’s not nighttime yet, wait until about 9 PM, then go up the staircase and exit through the door at the top.

Here, you should see Boone.  

Speak to him. The dialogue choices you pick don’t matter too much here, as regardless of what you do, he’ll always give you the quest.

Now, you will have to find Jeanie May Crawford. If it’s between approximately 9 AM and 9 PM, she will be in the Dino De-Lite Lobby, if not, she’ll be in her house. 

Talk to her and pick the “Come with me, there is something I need to show you in front of the dinosaur.” dialogue option. 

Put on Boone’s Beret, which will be in your inventory, and follow Jeanie May to the front of the dinosaur.

Stand next to her in front of the dinosaur and wait until Boone finishes the job.

Next, return to Boone. 

Once you’re back with Boone, speak to him and tell him that you’ve found the Bill of Sale. He will thank you for your help and give you a First Recon Beret and some caps as a reward for your work.

Final steps

Now that you’ve finished the quest, pick the following dialogue options, to recruit Boone as your companion.

After this, Boone will join your party.
