ED-E is an eyebot pet companion that can be found in a broken state in the Nash residence in Primm. He can also be repaired.
Quick tips before you go repair ED-E:
- No skills are needed. If you want to repair ED-E, you can use your Repair skill if you have it (the requirement is lower with certain levels of Science) , but you can also simply use parts which skips the necessity for any skill.
- ED-E is a pet companion. ED-E is a pet-type companion, which means that you can have him along for the ride alongside another human companion.
Gathering the materials
In case you have a Repair skill of 65 or higher (or a Science skill of 55 and a repair skill of 35), you can skip this step.
To recruit ED-E without a high Science or Repair skill, you need the following materials:
- 3x Scrap Metal*
- 2x Sensor Modules
- 1x Scrap Electronics
*Luckily, you only need 1, as there are two pieces of scrap metal located right next to ED-E.
The first Sensor Module and Scrap Electronics can be found at Lone Wolf Radio, which is located just up the hill northwest of Primm.
Once at Lone Wolf Radio, you’ll see an abandoned trailer. Enter it and look to the left.
Here, you can find the Scrap Electronics lying on a piece of radio equipment on the left side of the trailer. On the right side, you can see the Sensor Module lying on a shelf.
Now that you’ve gathered some of the electronic components, you have to get a piece of scrap metal and one more sensor module. The easiest place where you can find the Scrap Metal one is at Victor’s Shack, located in Googsprings.
Inside, you’ll see a small wooden shelf, inside of which you can find the Scrap Metal.
To find the final sensor module, travel back to Novac. There is a gas station opposite to the motel.
This gas station has a workshop with 5 sensor modules. They are marked as owned, which means that taking one will cost you a small amount of karma.
Recruiting ED-E
To actually recruit ED-E, you must first make your way to Primm, a town located just down the road that leads south of Goodsprings.
Once you’re in Primm, look for the entrance to the Nash residence. It’s the only enterable building on the right side of the street that you appear in when you fast-travel to Novac.
On the left, you will see ED-E lying on a table.
Walk up to him and interact with him.
Then, depending on which skill you want to use, you’ll have to select an option.
- Select the “Examine The Electronics” option if you want to use the Science skill (Science of 55 or more required). Then choose the “Run The Bypass” option. This will decrease the Repair skill requirement to 35.
- Select the “Try to fix it (Repair)” option if you want to use the Repair skill or if you want to use parts. Then choose the “Run the repair” (Repair of 65 or more required, 35 if you ran the bypass first) option or the “Repair with parts” (Parts from the previous part of the guide required) option to fix ED-E.
The screen will fade to black. Once it fades back in, ED-E will speak to you. Select the first dialogue option to have him join your party.
