How to get the Red Glare in Fallout: New Vegas

The Red Glare is a unique, fully automatic rocket launcher from the Lonesome Road DLC. It can be acquired at 3 different locations: a marked man hunter in the Marked Man Camp, on the rooftop of the Marked Man Camp building where the Laser Detonator is located, and in the rewards chest that spawns in the Mojave at the end of the DLC.

A few quick tips before I get into the guide.

  • Lonesome Road DLC required. To get this weapon, you must have the Lonesome Road DLC installed.
  • Marked Men in the area. Unless you plan on getting the gun from the rewards chest, you’ll have to get it from the Marked Men camp. As the name suggests, the camp is full of Marked Men, a powerful type of Feral Ghoul that can use weapons. Marked Men carry leveled gear, meaning that the later you come for the weapon, the more powerful the weapons of the Marked Men. At higher levels (40+), they carry weapons like the Anti-Material Rifle, Brush Gun, or Multiplas Rifle.
  • Expensive. This weapon is one of the most expensive items in the game, making it incredibly expensive to repair at a vendor. Try repairing the weapon yourself using Weapon Repair Kits, or pick up the Jury Rigging perk and repair it using Missile Launchers.

Acquisition

There are two ways of acquiring this weapon. The first method is to get it in the Marked Men Camp. The second is by getting it in the rewards chest at the end of the DLC. In this guide, I’ll talk about how to get the launcher in the Marked Men Camp. 

First, make your way to the Marked Men camp, located southeast of the Hopeville Missile Base headquarters.

Once there, look for a 2-story building with a blue car lodged in the roof.

Use the concrete rubble to reach the rooftop.

The gun will be on the far side of the roof, resting against 2 ruined military crates.

Stats 

Out of all of the weapons added with the Lonesome Road DLC, the Red Glare is by far the most unique.

It has a damage of 20, with an additional 40 explosive damage. This is already pretty great damage for an area-of-effect weapon, but it gets even better when you consider that you are firing these rockets at a rate of 4/second (5/second with the Auto Launcher mod, which can be bought from any commissary in the Divide).

This makes the weapon exceed almost any other weapon in the game when it comes to DPS, especially against clusters of enemies (such as the Tunnelers in the Divide).

Usage Tips

  • Grab all 3 ranks of the Demolitions Expert perk, as that will nearly double the explosive damage of this weapon (from 40 explosive damage to 64 explosive damage).
  • Grab the Rapid Reload perk. This is almost necessary to properly use this weapon, without it, it takes nearly 7 seconds to reload. This perk will turn it down to about 5.
  • Avoid using it against single enemies. It’s usually a waste of rockets. 
  • You can turn regular missiles from the base game into rockets on the workbench. Each missile yields 2 rockets.
