The Sands of Time can be found in the Waterfall Cave, accessible only if you do the side-quest in Dunplundrin. This item is entirely optional but very useful for some fights in the game.

Finding the Waterfall Cave

From Havre Leon or Zalenagrad, sail to the big island on the center-left of the map to reach Dunplundrin. Here you’ll hear about a pirate treasure and a Karstaway Stone that can absorb all water. 

Exit the town, use your Night Light and enter again at night. You’ll see the tides have risen and there’s a whirlpool on the beach. Rest at the inn and go to that same spot during the daytime to pick the Karstaway Stone. 

Now that you got the stone, get on your ship and sail to the western side of the world. On the eastern shore between Manikin’s Dominion and Rosehill, there is a cave surrounded by mountains and a lake. Get inside.

Getting the Sands of Time

Walk to the end of this room and use the Karstaway Stone between the two rocks. The stone will absorb all the water around and allow you to get inside the dungeon. 

Now you simply have to enter this dungeon and open the first chest you see, before the locked gate. The Sands of Time are inside. 

And that’s it! This item can be used to rewind any battle you come across, including boss battles. This can be quite useful during boss battles, because you can start the fight just to know what kind of attacks they do, and then use this item to start the fight over, but properly prepared. 

The Sands of Time also become extremely helpful if you want to farm Metal Slimes for EXP, as they usually run away at their second turn, so using it beforehand can allow you to restart the fight if they decide to flee. Both this item and the Liquid Metal Sword (that it’s also found in this cave) will allow you to farm Metal Slimes much more efficiently.
