How to get the Sphere of Silence in Dragon Quest IV
How to get the Sphere of Silence in Dragon Quest IV

You can find the Sphere of Silence during Chapter 4, in the cave to the west of Aubout Du Monde. It’s quite easy to miss this item, but without it, the final boss of this chapter will be extremely difficult.

Here are some tips before you head for the Sphere

  • Both Meena and Maya should be on level 4-5. Not skipping any battles during the chapter should be enough to get you there.
  • Equip both with at least a Hunter’s bow and a Leather Dress each. You can buy them in the starting town of chapter 4.
  • Bring Medicinal Herbs. Maya should have some Medicinal Herbs for situations where Meena is unable to heal.
  • Have an exit plan. Have at least one Chimaera Wing for any emergency where you need to leave the cave quickly.

Finding the Cave

You’ll first hear about the cave when talking to the old man in Aubout Du Monde; he’ll tell you to go there and find Oojam, a disciple of the Maya and Meena’s father.

To reach the cave you’ll have to exit Aubout Du Monde through the north, cross the bridge, and then keep following the river until the next bridge. You’ll see the cave there.

Exploring the Cave

This dungeon has Funghouls who can poison you (but Meena should have learned Squelch to cure it already); Winksters who can cast Frizz; Dirty Dogus and Wimps, who can heal and call for backups.

On the first floor you’ll find a chest with a Chimaera wing on the west side of the cave, and an elevator on the east side. There’s also a man that will ask if you’re searching for the Sphere of Silence. Take the elevator down.

On the second floor turn west and use the first elevator you’ll see. Follow the only path available on the third floor to find Oojam in the middle of the underground lake. He’ll tell you about how you need the Sphere of Silence to defeat Balzack, and then he’ll join your party. You can also find a chest with a Night Light in here.

Note: The Night Light is a special item you can use in the overworld to turn the night into day and vice versa.

With Oojam in your party the fights will be easier. Head back to the second floor and turn south this time. The left pathway has a chest with Gold, and the right pathway has a Seed of Life and another elevator; take it.

The elevator will take you to a straight path. Cross it, get into the next elevator and you’ll appear on the south side of the third floor. The chest with the Sphere of Silence is located here, on the stone square inside the lake.

You have everything you can find in this cave so exit and head northeast for the next step on your adventure on Palais de León.

Uses for the Sphere of Silence

With the Sphere of Silence you’ll be able to defeat Balzack much easier. When you use the Sphere, it makes the enemy unable to cast any spells. Without this item, Balzack can cast Full Heal on himself when he’s low on health, making the fight a lot harder.

Note: You’ll lose this item on Chapter 5, but you can get another Sphere of Silence after defeating the guard of Rosehill.
