You’ll find the Talaria (also known as Winged Shoes in other versions of DQ IV) in the cave to the southeast of Strathbaile, during the first chapter of Dragon Quest IV. You’ll need this key item to access the Loch Tower and rescue the missing children of Strathbaile.
Finding the Hidden Playground
Once you reach Strathbaile with Ragnar, head to the prison in the northeastern part of the town to find Angus, a man who lost his memory and is locked up in jail. You need to take his wife with you and bring her to the jail to speak to him. She’s in Burland.
Back in Burland, you’ll find Angus’ wife in the house to the west of the inn. Talk to her and take her all the way back to Strathbaile’s prison. Angus will recover his memory and tell you about a secret place to the southeast of town where the kids go play. That’s where you need to go.
Exploring the Hidden Playground
In this dungeon you’ll fight groups of Mad Moles, Healslimes who can heal other monsters, Stump Chumps and Winksters that can cast Frizz.
Fall into the well to access the dungeon. From here, walk all the way south until the end of this floor. You can turn east to get into another room with a Medicinal Herb or pick the stairs to the next floor.
From here walk straight east until the next room. Ignore the voice telling you that you’re heading the wrong way. Get to the end of this room to find a Slime named Healie that will join your party. Healie will be very useful in this chapter, as he can heal you while you fight. You can’t control it, however.
Head back to the previous room. Ignore the two paths in the middle. On the northern bifurcation, take the path east to find a chest with 540 Gold, and the path west to find the Talaria.
Now that you’ve got the Talaria you have to exit this cave, but you can’t do it through the same path you came in. Head back to the first room, and near the place where you first entered, go west and let yourself fall into the pit.
Climb the stairs and you’ll reach a room where you’ll find gold, a Medicinal Herb, a Seed of Agility and a Seed of Life. Exit the room to get back to the forest where you started.
Now that you’ve got the Talaria you can walk back to Strathbaile or use a Chimaera Wing if you got any. Using the Talaria in the open world will make you fly into the air and land on the lake tower to the west of Strathbaile, where you need to go next.
