LocationDiabolic Hall

You’ll find the Tempest Shield in the Diabolic Hall, after crossing the Colossus. This shield can’t be bought or found elsewhere in the game.

Preparations

  • Be around level 25. If you could get through the Colossus you can already go there, as the enemies are actually weaker.
  • Have the Mod Rod. Having this item will allow you to morph into a monster and skip the fights inside the Diabolic Hall. See our guide on how to get it!

Finding the Tempest Shield

After you activated the Colossus and exited through the other side, walk all the way northeast, following the mountains, until you see a river. On the other side of the river you’ll find the Diabolic Hall. Enter it.

This castle is inhabited by monsters instead of humans. If you got the Mod Rod before, you can use it to transform into a monster and speak to them, triggering different dialogues instead of fighting. You may have to use the Mod Rod many times until you become a monster instead of random humans.

From the main hall go northeast, to the bedrooms, and go up the stairs in the middle to get to the throne room. Go down the stairs on the northwestern corner to get outside of the castle.

From here walk a bit northwest and you’ll see a lake with some stairs behind it. Walk down those stairs to reach a secret room filled with prison doors. Open them all to get the four chests in this room.

The chest to the bottom right has a Mimic Enemy. Avoid it if you want to. The other three chests have a Mini Medal, a Seed ofResilience, and the Tempest Shield.

Congratulations! You got the Tempest Shield. Besides having a decent defense stat, this shield can also be used as an item to cast Kaswoosh, giving wind damage to all enemies. Only the Hero and Ragnar can equip it. It would be a good idea to give it to Ragnar, as he can’t learn any spells, so having magical items can be a substitute for whenever you want him to cast attacks with an area of effect on multiple enemies.

After you get the Tempest Shield, you can keep exploring the Diabolic Hall (there are more chests with treasure to find!) or get to the dining room to make Psaro appear and trigger the next step in the story: the resurrection of Estark.
