You can find the rare truffles growing in the wild or exchange them for medals during the Horse Races. Like all mushrooms, truffles only grow during fall.
The truffle is a rare item that is a required ingredient for the Truffle Rice recipe. You can also add truffles as an optional ingredient in many recipes such as noodles and fried rice.
You can ship truffles for 500G each, which makes it a decent source of money during fall.
West of the Mountain Lake
There is one truffle hidden in a path blocked by a large boulder in the mountain lake area. Getting this one requires you to have a level 6 hammer or higher. That means you will not get this truffle unless you have a cursed, blessed, or mythic hammer.
If you have the required hammer and have broken the boulder blocking the path, just follow it until you reach the end. You will find the lone truffle near the western part of the lake.
Behind the Church
You can find two truffles in the area behind the church. Only people who are friends with Pastor Carter can enter this secret area. To gain access to this area, check the guide here: How to Access the Secret Mushroom Garden in Harvest Moon: Friends of Mineral Town.
When you exit the church, just go straight up to find the first truffle. The second one is located further back behind a tree.
Exchanging for Medals at the Horse Racing Festival
During the spring and fall Horse Race, you can exchange truffles for 10 medals each. There is no limit to the number of truffles you can exchange, as long as you have the medals and rucksack space to do it.
Bet on the horse races to get medals. The horse with the lowest odds is most likely to win, but you will only receive a few medals. Your best bet to receive lots of medals is to join the race, bet on yourself with the maximum number of tickets, and try to win.
As Main Ingredient:
