One of the five crops you can plant in the spring in Harvest Moon: Back to Nature is the turnip. Turnip seeds are the least expensive in the game, and they grow fast. This makes the turnip an ideal crop to plant at the beginning of the game.
Crop Information
Season: Spring
Where to buy Seeds: At the Supermarket
Days to Grow: 4 days
Renewable Crop: No
Days to Regrow: N/A
Important Note: Each bag of seeds has 9 seeds that will fill a 3×3 square of tilled soil when planted. Any seed that lands on untilled soil will not grow and will be lost forever.
Profit Using the 3×3 and the Fat-C Method
The turnip is not the most profitable crop to plant during the spring season, but with how fast it grows and how cheap its seeds are, it still provides good value over time. You can gain up to 2940G per season for every 3×3 turnip crop you plant.
| 3×3 Square | Fat-C Method | |
| Seed Bag Cost | 120G | 120G |
| Price per Crop | 60G | 60G |
| Total Revenue per Bag | 540G | 480G |
| Total Profit per Bag | 420G | 360G |
| Total Profit per Bag per Day | 135G | 90G |
| Maximum Harvests per Season | 7 times | 7 times |
| Maximum Profit per Season | 2940G | 2520G |
Note: The maximum harvest per season is calculated assuming that you have planted the crop on the very first day of the season.
The Fat-C Method
This method involves tilling a 3×3 square of soil, leaving one square on the edge untilled, and planting just 8 crops instead of 9. Crops cannot be walked over once they have grown, making the center crop inaccessible. You can water and harvest the crop in the middle of the 3×3 square using this technique.
The drawback is that since you’ll only plant 8 crops instead of 9, you’ll have fewer crops to sell and earn less gold, but no crop will go to waste.
