How to unlock the Cave to Yet Another World in Dragon Quest VII

The Cave to Another World is the last bonus dungeon in the game, it can be accessed after finishing the main game and the Cave to Another World. You’ll need eight Mysterious Fragments to unlock it. The respective pillar is below the Shrine of Mysteries.

Warning: this guide has many spoilers for Dragon Quest VII.

Finding the first fragment

The first fragment is in Buccanham’s Casino. You need 2000 tokens to buy it. You earn tokens at the casino by playing any of the minigames. If you can’t be bothered to play at the casino, you can just buy 2000 tokens at the counter with 40.000 gold, which shouldn’t be that much if you’re already at the end of the game.

Finding the second fragment

The next fragment is also in Buccanham, you’ll need to talk to a series of NPCs in the following order to find out where it’s located:

  • The bunny girl near the casino prize counter
  • The old man on the top floor of the casino
  • The man on the floor below the casino prize counter
  • The armor shop wife (talk to her behind the counter)
  • The armor shop owner, at the top of the Beacon

After you’ve done this, go to the church in Buccanham and inspect the floor in front of the altar. You’ll find the Mysterious Fragment there. If you inspect the place without talking to the NPCs before, you won’t find anything.

Finding the third fragment

Zoom to The Haven and get on your ship. Sail to the whirlpool near the island to get to King Scoober’s Domain. You can only find this place after clearing the Buccanham scenario.

Walk a bit forward and talk to King Scoober. If you didn’t talk to him before you’ll need to talk to him again, until he tells you to help a certain monster.

You’ll find this monster in the Coral Cave. A quick way to get there is by Zooming to the Divine Shrine, getting on the Skystone and landing on the island beneath.

Finding the fourth fragment

This fragment is locked in a chest in The Haven. You’ll need to grow the town to level 3 before the chest appears, and you’ll need the Ultimate Key to open it.

Once you’ve done that, go to the eastern house and open all four chests to get the Oricalchum Fangs, a Royal Mail, a Malevolent Heart and the fourth Mysterious Fragment.

Note: The Oricalchum Fangs are the best weapon in the game for Ruff, don’t forget to equip them on him!

Finding the fifth fragment

For this fragment you’ll have to go back to the last dungeon of the main story, the Cathedral of Blight.

Get halfway through, in the area where you need to use an elemental amulet and use the Water Amulet to enter Whitewater Cave.

Getting the last fragments

To get the last three fragments you’ll need to clear the previous bonus dungeon, the Cave to Another World and beat The Almighty in less than 20 turns.

To defeat him in less than 20 turns you’ll need to be doing 650-700 damage each turn. This is very doable if you’re around level 45-50 and with the best gear you can get at this point of the game.

Every time you manage to defeat him in this way, he’ll give you a reward of your choice. You can choose between three different Mysterious Fragments, a Hero’s Heart,  Prime Cuts and a Skimpy Nightie.

After you pick a reward, he’ll teleport you away from the dungeon, so you’ll have to do it at least three times total to pick all the fragments.
