The Wagon

Note: Minor spoilers up to the beginning of Act 2

The Wagon is a feature allows the player to expand their party capacity and is obtainable during Act 2, shortly after regaining control of the hero after the time skip.

How to Get the Wagon?

The Wagon only becomes available during Act 2 of the game. After regaining control of the hero after the 10-year time skip between Act 1 and 2, you will quickly find yourself in Heaven’s Above Abbey. After completing the story segment here, the world map will open and you will be able to travel to Fortuna, to the North of Heaven’s Above Abbey. It is here that the wagon will be available for purchase.

Once you reach Fortuna at the beginning of Act 2, the wagon will be obtainable by following this guide.

Head to the southwestern part of town to visit Monty the Monster Caretaker (labeled by the blue slime on the map).

After unlocking Monty’s Monster Dens, head to the lone house in the northwestern part of town at NIGHT (there will be no one at the house if you do not enter at night).

What Does the Wagon Do?

The Wagon gives the player 4 more party spaces, expanding their party capacity to 8. However, the limit for active “battle” party characters is still limited to 4. Instead, excess party members will wait in the wagon. Party members in the wagon will still earn exp from battle.

Another function of the wagon is its swapping mechanic. In areas where the wagon is available, the player can rearrange their party at any time, including during battles. The wagon is not available in caves, dungeons, and castles. It is advised that players thoroughly prepare healing items and consider their party composition before entering these areas due to the inaccessibility of the wagon.

Things to Look Out About the Wagon

Throughout the game, there are a few unique interactions with the wagon. Some pop up while traveling and some during battle. Keep these notes in mind throughout your journey.

  • Excess monsters recruited on your journey past the limits of the wagon capacity will be sent to Monty’s Monster Dens while excess human characters will be sent to Patty’s Party Planning Place.
  • There are several monsters with skills that have interactions with the wagon during battle.
    • Banish is a skill that several larger monsters can use to force a party member back into the wagon
    • Close Wagon is a skill that blocks wagon use during battle, nullifying the wagon’s ability to swap out characters during battle.
